Blogging - What Is A Weblog?

A “weblog”, or “blog” for short, is an online journal. Weblogs first started out as personal diaries on the Internet, then morphed into their present multiple, less personal forms. Some weblogs are soapboxes for a particular opinion, some teach you how to do something, and still others exist solely to sell a new product each day.

There are numerous types of weblogs, each with their own purpose. But all forms of blogs have something in common: their intended publishing schedule. I say “intended”, because the general idea behind a weblog, compared to regular website, is that the owner intends to publish new articles frequently. This does not always end up being the case, but the intent is that fresh content will be posted at least 3-4 times per week.

Less frequent publishers sometimes call their weblogs “journals”, so as to disengage from any publishing schedule. However, the intent still is that new content will be made available more frequently than on a regular website. And what’s more, the content will be written in a very personable, one on one style.

Please note that these webpages use an older page template and thus look different than the TechnoBabble weblog you are currently reading.
