Technobabble #2: New Type of Computer Memory and Mobile Craziness

Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE: FSL), formerly a division of Motorola, has released a new type of computer memory, MRAM or Magnetic RAM, which is much faster than conventional memory, and can hold information after power is turned off. Because of this, MRAM might be used in cell phones and cameras.

The only draw back is that MRAM is currently about 1,000 times more expensive the DRAM (Dynamic RAM) currently in use.

While agencies have downplayed the security risk, it’s still a welcome announcement that a new secure laptop has been announced. The laptop apparently meets new federal requirements for laptop encryption.
