Riya: Visual Search Engine

Riya, an image recognition startup is expanding its plan to become a visual search engine. Its like what google does for the text, riya is doing for the images. The complex image recognition algorithm will let you identify people and text in the pictures.

How this works?
To start with, you need to register/login with Riya and start uploading your pictures. Once uploading is done, you can then tag the images. The best part is, once you train the Riya to do tagging, it will then do auto-tagging.
As with any software, its not 100% correct, and you could see that some images won’t be tagged correctly. You could always correct the tags and get going.

The fun starts
Now that you finished the tagging, the system will let you Rock ‘n’ Roll. You can browse the pics by people, albums, time, location or any other specific tags.

Riya 2.0
Riya started with developing a social web application for recognizing the people in the pictures. The search pattern of people who are using Riya revealed that, people are more interested in searching images in the public web using tags than recognizing their photos. They are looking for better image searching capabilities than google can offer.

So, the company has started rolling out their Riya 2.0 and it should be happening in 3 to 4 months. The cool thing about this new release is that, you can search by color or even you can search by the sketch idea. It will be interesting to watch how this is going to happen.
