YotoPhoto: Image Search Engine

Yotophoto - Image search engine logo

Are you a blogger? Are you looking for some nice professional photos to use in your blog for free? Look no further. Yotophoto is an image search engine which indexes over quarter million ‘copyleft’ images for you to use. Copyleft images are the ones which comes under creative commons, public domain, GNU FDL and others so that you can use the images in your blogs under certain conditions.

I quickly searched for some images which I’m interested in, and it returned wonderful results. There is a tagcloud at the bottom of the home page, which could help you to start searching at the macro level. You can then narrow down your search.

As with the image search engine Riya, Yotophoto has a “search by color” feature. (Riya’s isn’t available yet; Yotophoto’s is.) You have a choice of using the colour picker from the palette, or typing in the six-digit hex colour code. What’s even nicer is that  you can choose the orientation (landscape, portrait, square) of the photos you want to see. Yotophoto analyzes entire images, identifies the prominent colour, and matches to your requirement.

On the first look, I’m happy that I found a tool to identify images to use in my blogs. The online stock photo houses could really use something like Yotophoto built into their site. If you’ve used Yotophoto, let me know about your experience.
