Promptu: Mobile Search For Content Through Voice

Promptu the sister concern of AgileTV, has developed a voice based technology to search for content from your mobile through voice. This voice recognition based search and navigation facility will help you find the content you are interested in. The other day I blogged about 4info, a similar search company which lets you find the information you want on mobile. But Promptu uses speech recognition technology to drive the search for contents.

They support lot of content types like music, videos, games, wallpapers, ringtones etc. Lets say that you are searching for “ColdPlay”. Speak out “ColdPlay” and it will display all the media related to the search term you spoke. They use Distributed Speech Recognition (DSR) architecture to find contents with high voice recognition accuracy.

With Promptu, you can search vast library of content offered by your wireless carrier. The best part of searching using DSR is that you are not just limited to a particular category. If you search for “Tiger Woods”, it will not only return Tiger Woods wallpapers, but also related games, ringtones and other relevant content.

Promptu is growing and last month they have closed an additional $11.6 million round of funding. They were recently named as one of the Ten Emerging Wireless Companies to Watch in 2006 by analyst firm IDC. In addition, Promptu was honored by OnHollywood as a Top 100 Private Company in 2006.
