1videoConference: Open Source Video Conferencing Application
Sourceforge, ever a source of great, free, open source software has a web conferencing tool, 1videoConference, that installs on a server. It is currently a Windows-only product and requires .NET to be installed, as well as Flash and an IE certificate. Probably too much tech for a small business to try, but then it’s only in alpha right now. Future versions will be supposedly have less manual intervention.
Sorry, but as I refuse to install .NET on my computers, I can’t tell you much more than this. While I run Windows XP on some of my computers, I’m actually more of a Linux DIY (Do-It-Yourself) geek. But as Ward Mundy at Nerd Vittles does such a great job of covering open source VoIP software such as Asterisk and TrixBox (which is Asterisk-based), I haven’t gotten into them much here. (Though I don’t think either has video capability.) But if you don’t hold my biases against .NET, check 1videoConference out. You do need to register your email for their hosted trial. They’re also openly looking for angel investors. I wish them luck, but I’ll stick with SightSpeed or Skype for voice and video conferencing for the time being. They’re not open source but they are high-quality VoIP and vVoIP (video VoIP) soft clients.
