Vista Self Destruct Sequence will Begin in T - 72 Hours
Mac lovers will delight in the latest examples of Microsoft’s inability to create an operating system that does not self destruct. ZDnet’s Ed Bott reported this morning on an issue that has been floating around the blogosphere talking about a Microsoft Validation problem that mysteriously triggers and threatens to reduce the operating systems capability in 72 hours or else.
The problem comes into play when certain programs are installed on systems running the operating system. No problems are indicated at the point of installation, but later the problem rears its ugly head.
Vista and its confirm, confirm, confirm or deny security system gets paranoid about some software, fearing that the software might either harm the operating system or more importantly the license.
Don’t steal from papa Microsoft or they will lock you up and the Vista’s won’t look so swell through bars.
Vista’s validation process has been a suspicious target for complaints and abuse. Microsoft has worked to make it difficult to rip off its software. The problem is that they have made it so difficult that it is sometimes questionable if that Vista license might be able to be used if you upgrade your computer, say with a new motherboard, video card, hard drive, USB devices or even if you just sprayed the dust from your keyboard. Its kind of sensitive!
So now not only is it hardware that might set things off, but software too. Now don’t get me wrong there are reasons why Microsoft might watch software installations as something theoretically could go in and overwrite the registry or some other component of the Operating System and magically release the software to the world.
I guess this is just one more reason why I am happy to hold off on my Vista upgrade!
