Domain Names To Cost More
Techcrunch reports that Verisign, who own the .com TLD (Top Level Domain) registry, plans to increase the cost of domains 7%. They have a monopoly, so that’ll net them nearly US$30M more per year. So my advice to you is that you not only think about getting future domain names now but also consider registering them for longer periods - if you are serious about them. Say 3 years or longer. I’ve got some at 5 and even 10 years, if I plan to keep them. For domains I’m not sure of, I’m keeping them at 1-3 years.
Pity Dating 2.0
While you’re at Techcrunch, also check out the (short) post on a new “dating” site called GetThemLaid. It’s not April Fool’s joke, apparently. Some cheeky buggers with a sense of humour want to help out your friends who “haven’t had any” for a while. Post a picture of your single friend, and add a profile, and maybe they’ll get some, ahem, attention. Of course, don’t be surprised if all the profiles are of guys.
Vonage Delays Annual Report Filing
Vonage, one of the best know of VoIP providers has been suffering one set back after another since they went IPO in 2006. The latest setback was losing a patent infringement lawsuit against them by Verizon. (Most of the attacks have come from telcos, not other VoIP providers.) Part of the net result is that Vonage is filing their annual report later than expected.
