Self Publishing Takes Many Forms

Audio books are a new path for self publishing. It is one of the fastest growing segments in the book publishing industry. With the popularity of electronic devices like iPod, and with a population that spends a good portion of the day commuting, it is no wonder that this form of the “written” language has enjoyed such growth.

Self publishing of any kind can be expensive. Set up fees often run into the thousands, but after this the cost is only per book published. This means that a writer determines how much profit is made on each book by setting the selling price. It also motivates a writer to become a salesman. This route has become especially popular with authors that have a built in market – such as public speakers, evangelists, and missionaries.

In the past, self publishing was mainly for nonfiction books. The internet, and e-books, has opened up opportunities for all genres. The self published industry is becoming a recognized form of publishing, but it is still wise to research a company before you pay them any money.
