Introduction to Blogging

Note: This group of web pages is a part of the upcoming Blogging Resource Guide free ebook. Check back often for a release date. These pages are also a supplement to the BlogSpinner V2.0 blog, which is aimed at bloggers who have already started a blog but haven't gotten very far into their blogging activities and need a little guidance. Unless you already have a blog, it is recommended that you read this group of web pages first, before reading the BlogSpinner blog.

The term blog comes from weblog. A weblog is essentially a digital journal maintained by one or more authors. The blogosphere is the portion of the Internet where the websites are blogs. Anyone who blogs (writes blog entries) is referred to as a blogger.

The tone of the writing in a blog is typically very personal, one-on-one. Besides the tone, the primary difference between a blog and a regular website is that a blog is supposed to contain regular fresh content, preferably on a daily basis. This content includes articles, reviews, tutorials, audio files, etc. A blog can be an ideal way for a business owner to communicate one-on-one with potential customers.

Darren Rowse, one of the world's most well-known and successful bloggers, reecently counted no fewer than 20 types of blogs - with many more types he says he probably missed.

With so many types of blogs out there in the blogosphere, there is no doubt one that would suit your purposes.
